Poptimism Speshul Report!

That was pretty good! Big crowd, big enough that we could put a few quid into the fighting fund (used for CD cases and NOW albums, generally), dancefloor packed for the last 3 hours or so, I think there were RANDOMS, we could have gone on even longer but let's not get too ambitious (who am I kidding, CHICORY TIP ALL NIGHTER).
I played Lieutenant Pigeon at +8, now I can die happy. Nobody except Marcello and I danced, I should perhaps have got it out the way in the early set. I also feel I must apologise to the two Iron Maiden fans who were cruelly cheated out of more than one chorus of "Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter" but it had cleared the floor and we had to act fast.
The WHEEL OF POP, despite being somewhat ill-constructed, was a complete triumph at least from a DJ point of view: it forced us to change our game a bit, and led to greatness such as everyone vogueing to "Jailhouse Rock". Also the prize draw gimmick worked GRATE and I think we will be trying it again, next time I will put a little line on saying "put your email if you want to get Poptimism updates", marketing eh, anyway well done Horvar, whoever you are, and I hope you enjoyed yr trufflesand your Booth and the Bad Angel CD.
Every time we do a Club Popular I always think beforehand, this will be the last one, everybody's going to get sick of it and we always play the same things. And then afterwards I always think, god what a great idea! Anyway, no more #1s nights for a little while but the Club Popular DJs and their bag of CDs are of course available for weddings, parties, anything.
What's NEXT!! More gimmicks! Actually no, we have a couple of relatively gimmick-free months coming up. The next Poptimism is on October 14th, guest DJs Rob and
katstevens, then there's a November one with more extra-special DJ action, and a number of THEMED SETS are in consideration including the Scandinavian Set, also the Heaven vs Hell soundclash. And then we FINALLY have the first ever POPTIMISM CHRISTMAS PARTY with guest DJing by SANTA HIMSELF. Ever since we started Sussed in 2001 we have been vainly trying to do something at Christmas but we've always been muscled out by corporate parties, but fingers crossed this time it's actually going to happen. I'm already excited.
Thanks to everyone who came and I hope you all had a splendid time. Tracklisting for the free CD up on NYLPM tomorrow.
