Despite voting almost exclusively for NINDIE and NALTERNATIVE tracks, the best one here is clearly Hi-Tack... a proper old-school "clubbing anthem".

To be honest I can't remember the Sway track and only ticked it to show I'm not a rac1st because he's good. I should withdraw my ticky to make it more exciting!

It took great mental strain to tick the B&S track, but it sounded nice on the radi-HO.

Sorry for bumpin this down with the PWC 1/2 times by the way!

You'd like Crimea and the Kooks, Alex, solid Plan B fare.

We haven't featured them in Plan B, I don't think! If they're mainstream indie along the lines of Editors et al, that's basically the music everyone on the Plan B editorial HATES though. I will actually always and forever feel SHAME that the first time I heard of J Gonzalez was in Plan B, ages and ages ago, and this was probably quite significant in drawing him to people's attention. BOO. And yet it didn't work when I wrote about Teedra Moses :(

I think before the next Poptimist poll we need a long, chin-strokey discussion about the MEANING of the phrase "any good at all", 'cos I sometimes find that it makes me very generous with the tickies, to the point of "any redeeming features whatsoever even if I once gave it a zero in a review"...

bouncy = the only one I have heard kidz on the bus (and in hackney Library!) sing and play on their phones = the realest in this particular game

also it's a REALLY GOOD SONG.

I still haven't got the Sway album. Must rectify now that I can afford it (though tbh I burnt out on the mixtapes and am suspicious that the album will not live up to my expectations for it, these suspicions centre around that perennial stumbling block of UK hip hop production)

oh dere, I've only heard 8 or 9 of these. Stevem did promise yesterday to provide YSIs on request but asking for a dozen or more is just taking the piss innit. I think I'll abstain.

My criteria is "would I have it on my hard drive?" My hard drive is quite big, but not big enough for Editors or Hard-Fi.

but if someone wants to YSI "Heartbeats", that'd be nice - just so I can potentially annoy The Lex too!

Noooo please do a Now poll! I will not be around tomorrow and I don't want to miss it, they are extraordinarily compulsive.

The Gonzales was a marginal for me - I thought it was both quite gimmicky and quite haunting when I first heard it, I've got a bit bored of it now though so no ticky. I think it would be a lame 'winner' though.

The one I really can't understand is Editors - it's dreadful, a weird combination of overblown and really unambitious-sounding, plus he can't hold a vocal line at all.

I don't like the Arctic Monkeys one either, because it's stoppy-starty and I never like that.

I loathe both Editors and Arctic Monkeys but can see why they are getting ticks, they are in the vein of the Britpop many members of this community hold unaccountably dear to their hearts. But the Gonzalez is basically a small step above Rhyming Slang Blunt doing 'Heartbeats' and I did not think that sort of thing was approved of round here at all!

Some of my rave crew also like the Editors, in fact I met some of them after an Editors gig, they'd acquired poppers which we then proceeded to do in the middle of Wetherspoon's = Editors are dirty and wrong and skanky and I DO NOT UNDERSTAND PEOPLE :(

He's much much less heavy-handed than Blunt - Blunt is slightly acousticised rock and Gonzales is more delicate, also his voice is a great deal more intriguing.

And I think it suits the song quite well too, which is probably because the Knife are indie themselves.
