It's the Madonna canon.

Sixty tracks. Twenty picks. No further explanation necessary really.

[Poll #718610]

Results - of all canons - after the Bank Holiday. And the PWC! And a Now poll! And and and - oh the orgafun!

I detect no schaffel in 'Don't Tell Me', just the usual Mirwais electro stylings. It was quite a grower for me tho.

The 90s slump is only 'post Bedtime Stories' imo - the singles from that are exquisite. And 'Ray Of Light' really WAS a return to form for me!

It's not just me that spotted the Dot Allison thing, is it?

I liked Ray Of Light an awful lot. Restored my faith in Madge that had disintegrated after Secret.

I think I am going to play one of these tracks at The Ol' Sugar Me Do...but which one? find out on the 12th (it will be one of the lesser celebrated ones...but no less classic imo).

'Everybody' could've been included in place of 'Burning Up' also perhaps.

The world would already forgotten her by now were it not for ROL, I think. Aboslutely massive LP.

The first quarter of the poll suggests you are completely crazy. I'l grant that she wouldn't have "got" to marry Guy Ritchie.

Indeed. And a v good bassline it is too. Ah, I love the werk database though. Tis pretty good for checking up on that sort of thing - even if someone relinquishes their claim and it's downgraded from "cover" to "adaptation/sample" to "contains elements of" it's still on the audit trail and I can see who has been naughty.

The 90s slump basically consists of Evita - Ray Of Light is a bit pompous but all the singles were SO classic, Bedtime Stories is maybe a better album than a couple of its singles would imply but then again one of its singles was possibly her best ballad ever, and Erotica is quite clearly the pinnacle of her career.

And Evita wasn't, y'know, bad or anything! Just a bit funny.

On Sorry the entire backing tune is lifted off Dot Allison's Substance, with a bit of jigging about by Mr Lu Cont.

Well, maybe "forgot" exactly. But Prince is remembered in 2006, too.

I almost picked Erotica as my worst, just on principle because I quite worshipped her around that time but had a hard time getting my head around those heavy-breathing patchwork singles. (But I did like Evita!)

Good to see that with early results in, there's nearly unanimous hatred of 'American pLife'.

I'm surprised 'Hung Up' isn't doing better though... perhaps people aren't voting for it because it's "too recent" and has not yet cemented its place in the legend that is Madonna, but I think 'Hung Up' is the best thing she's ever done (even if that is largely down to Abba).

So if you see it, why don't you give ol' Dot a call? I'm sure she could use a check (and certainly deserves one).

The next single is basically JLC rejigging 'Mandarine Girl' and Madge singing something very like Kylie's 'Love At First Sight' over it.
