Some MP3s!

Human League - The Black Hit Of Space - as quoted last week, what an amazing track this is.

NATO - Chorjavon - this is the disco terrorist pop project started by the guy who also put together tATu, it is a bit of a missed opportunity to be honest as while the Arab street pop pastiche sounds pretty hot the beats never quite achieve RAVE LIFTOFF.

Goombay Dance Band - Son Of Jamaica - you've always wanted to hear the follow-up to "Seven Tears"? YES YOU HAVE. Bit of wistful pop in a Boney M style.

Comment if you download, go on do.

I remember downloading that NATO video (whose suicide bombing motif really made people go apeshit) ages ago and never even knew what the song was called. I thought it was crap at first, but I never deleted it. It's actually quite amazing when you get used to it.

Yeah, that HL track is great. What I love about it most is the stiffness. In fact there are quite a few levels of stiffness to this song, all playing off one another: the stiffness of the melody is one, the stiffness of the rhythm is another, and all those beeping, pinging sounds sliding around in the background are a stiffness too. It's the same as I hear in Kraftwerk or Moroder or Gary Numan or something, all those "early electronic musics", it sounds dated but not in a negative way? The freshness, the sense of discovery is preserved, I mean. Each part of the track seems so simple, yet so carefully constructed, so carefully isolated/foregrounded [listen to that second warbling vocal track on the chorus!] and yet at the same time carefully integrated into this rich, complex, whole.

It's great!
