A slip of the fingers means this poll was briefly published CONTEXT-FREE but here we go, it's 1994, Wet Wet Wet spend 15 cruel weeks at the top of the charts and the first stirrings of Britpop turn up on Now, playing second fiddle to Stiltskin.

Fans of the Mad Stuntman will be gutted by his one-vote loss to Ace Of Base's "The Sign" - both acts return on this compilation. The general consensus on the Smashing Pumpkins is "not very good at all", with a small but vocal minority arguing for "good, actually".

And that's about all I can say - over to you!

I get the feeling I may be alone in voting for Stiltskin. They were Avwil/Kelly Clarkson seven/ten years before she was!

I'm sure the Toni Braxton song was called 'Another Sad Love Song'! That's how it went anyway. Toni Braxton is quite classic generally, I think.

Me & [livejournal.com profile] boyofbadgers clearly ex-readers of SMASH HITS. "Ver Wets" indeed...

Dawn Penn- You Don't Love Me (No No No): surely the only song ever to appear on both a Now That's What I Call Music! and a Soul Jazz compilation (200% Dynamite, fact fans)?

Were Blur even more despicable than the Beautiful South?

Me neither/me too (even though I owned this!).

Both boy band songs here ('I Swear' and 'Crazy For You') are better than the entire collected works of Take That.

I honestly have no recollection of that track at all. First year at uni syndrome kicking in bigstyle now.

Also I like 'Girls & Boys' but not so much that the sight of it tied for the lead with 'Whatta Man' and BEATING 'NO GOOD' doesn't make me whimper with pain.

I very nearly ticked them because I quite liked 'Inside' at the time, but...no...

actually IIRC the lead singer looked a bit like OUR EWING!

i think this could be the lowest average vote ever, only four songs in double figures after c. 15 votes...

What 'Whatta Man' lacks in hooks to compare with 'Push It' or 'My Lovin' it makes up for in CLASSIC LINES! "You so crazy...I think I wanna have your baby, heh heh", also "that's not it..."

'Girls & Boys' isn't even a proper indie song, it has a proper beat!

for a second i thought i'd bought inside, but i think now it was an almost identical single (in my head at the mo) by 'Cracker'.
