Rrrrrrround Up
Feb. 27th, 2006 10:56 amMight as well put all this into one huge post!
You have until midnight to vote in the Pop World Cup Group F.
Group G starts on Wednesday - which means that freakytrigger@gmail.com needs MP3s or links thereof, and team talks, from
braisedbywolves,
darkpigeon,
atommickbrane, and
stevem78 - by midnight TOMORROW please!
Science research by
boyofbadgers suggests that goths don't think the Cure are goth but that everyone else does. Here at any rate is the official Cure Canon:
1. In Between Days (25 votes)
2. Boys Don't Cry (23 votes)
3. The Lovecats (22 votes)
4. Close To Me (20 votes)
5. Just Live Heaven (19 votes)
6. A Forest (16 votes)
7. Friday I'm In Love (14 votes)
8=. Lullaby (10 votes)
8=. Pictures Of You (10 votes)
10. Why Can't I Be You (8 votes)
No support at all for High, A Letter To Elise, Mint Car or Taking Off. The old stuff is apparently the best.
Speaking of which, more hagiography of Guilty Pleasures. My top 3 reasons for disliking GP, in chart countdown order:
3. Residual distrust of the phrase "guilty pleasure" reinforcing a tedious hierarchy of music listening etc etc.
2. Going to their tent at Glastonbury and being a bit disappointed with the tunes on offer.
1. Intense soul-gnawing envy.
Meanwhile, you might remember Winner Stays On, designed to find the best track in the world right now, and you might also remember that there hasn't been one for ages. That's because for whatever reason doing it felt like more hassle than doing the other orgafun. Anyway instead what we're going to do is have a TRACK OF THE MONTH poll each month, so here's where you can nominate something for that:
[Poll #680984]
Simple innit!

Date: 2006-02-27 11:48 am (UTC)But I hate the titles too, and obviously agree with your reason 3.
As for this:
David Essex is in. The Scorpions are out ("rubbish", reckons Rowley). Scissor Sisters are in. Girls Aloud are out ("too knowing"). S Club 7's Don't Stop Moving is in. ("There is an innocence about that record.")
Wuh? So basically, Rowley's saying he (his club) only plays records he likes? Revolutionary!

Date: 2006-02-27 11:51 am (UTC)it's STILL horrendously rockist, but i can't quite put my finger on why, and that is what annoys me most i think (and reason 3 obv.)

Date: 2006-02-27 11:59 am (UTC)...is it because it's totally a nostalgia-fest that it annoys me?
i think we need a FIELD TRIP to observe at close quarters.

Date: 2006-02-27 12:14 pm (UTC)I agree with the FIELD TRIP idea. Especially if we can do some SCIENCE.

Date: 2006-02-27 12:19 pm (UTC)I still think most of my antipathy boils down to "He has a club night and I don't" though. :(

anyone feeling guilty listening to aHa or s-club is an idiot of their own making. anyone who can't enjoy something that is "too knowing" likewise. IT DOES NOT MATTER.
bollocks to it.
