TRINIDAD ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Group B interim report

Trinidad and Tobago were able to look down from the summit of Group B this morning after a convincing win over minnows Paraguay. Trinidad supremo [livejournal.com profile] jel_bugle faced criticism for his team selection but his choice of an experienced squad seems to have paid off and they top the table on goal difference. Paraguay may be disappointed with their performance but they are far from out of contention for a qualifying spot.

In the other group B clash, Sweden edged out England in a tight encounter, leaving England with a job to do in the remainder of the group stage. Pundits suggested that there is no great gap in quality between the England squad and their rivals, though, and a fightback should certainly not be beyond them.

All votes to be in by Monday night - keep them coming!

(The interim report is based on the first 10 or so votes - which constitute around 1/3 of the total if the last group is anything to go by)

... but how we played the game

even if iran falls at the first fence -- WHICH IT WON'T -- this cuptimism has led me to uncover the existence of IRANIAN [genre-name redacted as per FIPA requirements]!!

sadly tournament rules prohibit its wider dissemination quite yet but DARE YOU MISS THIS PLEASURE?

make yr CHOICE adventurous stranger
tactically VOTE and BIDE the danger
or WONDER till it drives you MAD
what would have happened if you HAD?

Speaking as a totally unbiased neutral, my prediction is that after another couple of weeks of these insane and obviously nonsensical ravings from the mad mullah in charge of the Iran team, we will all be supporting violent intervention in the Pop World Cup from America. "Yes Mr Bush, do bomb Hackney, and with extreme prejudice," we will all be saying.

NOISY ANNOUNCEMENT

[identity profile] dubdobdee.livejournal.com 2006-01-26 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Erupting like the sores on the running dogs thay they are, the mewling lackeys in charge of the renegade Angolan claque -- an unrepresentative and brittle front that yaps in the face of all good-thinking people-- persist in juggling contumelies. We merely point out that the VICTORIOUS AND GLORIOUS IRANIAN TEAM is in any way connected with that galactic infidel quack falsely titled "Mullah Remsat" -- a rank he breifly and bogusly claimed before his righteous unmasking at the hands of tireless revolutionary vigilance. We warn the world's sporting communities to desist from despoiling Persian honour with the touch of this corrupt and unintelligent mountebank.

It is clear that in attempting to deny any association with the man everyone is calling 'the MAD MULLAH' the preceding announcement makes a blatant Freudian slit in omitting a negative, thus CONFIRMING that they are IN THRALL TO this DEPRAVED LUNATIC! This is, it is clear, BEGGING FOR BOMBING or at the very least nil points from all right-thinking people.

Also, Angola is black so everyone who votes against them is clearly a racialist.
