Best Song of 2004: Heat #8

Frank Ferguson gets ANOTHER song through, as do Girls Aloud, Rachel Stevens, Goldfrapp and The Killers! Man, that was a tough heat.

And so to our last outing in 2004, and the bangers keep on coming :) Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock...

  • You get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll, unless you played the investigation game on the previous heat and told us all your new favourite (and why). Put your new favourite in the box below and get an extra tick for the next heat - do it for five or more heats and get an extra nomination for 2005.

  • The top five in each heat will go through to the next stage. Make sure you rep for your faves in the comments!

  • If you want to fill in the 'best song I only heard today' box later, change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Tuesday lunchtime to vote, and then I'll post up the top 40 qualifiers from the year.

[Poll #1518213]

Extra ticks this heat go to [livejournal.com profile] friend_of_tofu, [livejournal.com profile] koganbot, [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus and [livejournal.com profile] jeff_worrell .

WTF is that avatar? Disturbing!

That last third is a very poor selection, as reflected in the votes to date.

Shatner excepted obv

I had gone a good five years without "You Can Do It" troubling my brain.

Put your back into it.

No! I will put my ass into it.

ect ect

You knew that was too long -- the universe will not stand for such evasion.

OMG AUGH WHAT worst heat EVER, for ANY year so far. D: I need nine ticks just to cover my Absolute Non-Negotiable Must-Ticks! WOE.

That said, ALL MUST TICK:

MVA performance rather than the video because that was how I first heard it, and was properly blown away. Sentimental value! <3

That beat + bassline will NEVER not be sick as shit. Classsssssssicccccccc!

(Did not subject line this comment because HOW DO YOU CHOOSE BETWEEN "I GOT A FAKE ID THO" AND "SOMEBODY GIVE ME A BASSLINE"? IMPOSSIBLE TASK!!!1!)

NOW ERRRBODY IN THE CLUB GET TIPSY

the song that launched a thousand staggery beats.

when i saw tilt ya head back in the list i did not realise what song it was.

now i have had to go back and change my vote - sorry tash but you can't compete with that much chemistry

i can't be the only one who did not connect the title with the song, cos surely it would have more votes otherwise...

And my last non-charting nomination for the year is Lovely Lovely Shaznay:

Open is CRIMINALLY underrated -- a fantastic summer album, all sunshine and vintage radio crackle. Of course, this track, my favourite by some distance, isn't the least bit representative of Open's overall sound (see eg amazing Nasty Boy and Dance for excellent examples of that, instead); but it IS stunning, wistful and swooning, and the gorgeous video, with its dream-hazy, melancholy shades of blue, fits it perfectly.

TELL US WOT YOU CALL IT THEN

This along with Shystie's One Wish was one of the first non-Dizzee grime singles I heard! Top introduction to the genre, to say the least.

Travis Tritt's "Too Far To Turn Around" on MySpace and on Lala and on last.fm. A man chooses the pit. I called it a slow walk through fire in the Voice.

DJ Maryam (Mahshar) - Vase Chi

AutoTuned so fiercely as to penetrate brick, concrete, marble, bedrock. Possibly the best track ever to reach us through [livejournal.com profile] poptimists orgafun (very first round of the Pop World Cup, iirc). This is a shortened version on YouTube:

This sounds like it might be interesting but ouch it seems like the sound quality in this clip is dire. And it's not on Spotify... would appreciate a better link if anyone has one?

Spotify

32 of the tracks oare on here, which is a solid turn out. Not sure I have the right version of the Sean Paul?

(I'm back, btw, I'll be filling in the spotify lists for the ones I missed during my three month hiatus and I'll gather them in one mega post)
