Yet Another Year In Pop: 26

Halfway through the year! Apparently Jacko has 43 singles in the top 200 this week, but it's not enough to keep La Roux off the top spot.

[Poll #1422753]

Reminder: you have until 2pm tomorrow (that should be enough time for the mud-encrusted hippies to catch up on their internets) to vote in the penultimate heat of 2000 - the Bloodhound Gang are only 4 votes away from a run-off with 'Stan'...

YES I TICKED LA ROUX. The Zinc remix is amazing. D:

Raindrops is BRILLIANT. I listened to it about twenty times earlier on repeat and with each play it became MOAR GREBT.

See also: Rabbitheart, altho my totally legal download of the Lionheart remix appears to have been ripped off YouTube; woe!

Earth song, as discussed earlier, is AMAZE. Billie Jean alright in a 'oh go on, if you've died' sort of way. Have always hated Thriller and Smooth Criminal killed my vocal chords on Rock Band t'other night so earns no brownie points.

Oh. I see what you mean about the Zinc remix. Shame the original is so fucking horrible, but yeah, that bass.

There's a high risk of me playing the Foamo remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZnjxi870j4) at Poptimism.

This is relevant to my interests.

Obviously all the MJ songs (except Earthsong) are "any good at all" but ticking old tracks is a bit pointless, thus I haven't.

LOL the MJ songs are the only good ones. Showing up the entire rest of this year's charts, pretty much.

La Roux vile, Noisettes pointless, 'Raindrops' dire and dull (though the b-side 'Wheel N Stop' is terrific!). Florence not as bad as I was expecting or as horrifying as her last single but can't bring myself to give a shit.

tempted to tick La Roux because the softer version they did on BBC Glasto was better - she cooed it more and sounded fine. Zinc mix is alright but there must be others floating around.

Raindrops may be growing on me but not enough to get a tick. REMEDY IS TEN YEARS OLD BTW WAH.

Wow, I hated that stripped down version of Bulletproof, but perhaps it's because I hate the song, or, more likely, because I just hate Jackson herself. Not a very good song, and the production of the recorded version is shrill and irritating. She's going down in my estimation rapidly. Even despite the excellent remixes.

La Roux Glasto: same here, I thought the arrangement was a bit Fever Ray.

Shame that Man In The Mirror's a bit rub.

"Rabbit Heart" is really really good - I had NO idea she had it in her.

"Raindrops" I've gone off a bit but it's OK.

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
is 'Rabbit Heart' your favourite song with Rabbit in the title?

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2009-06-29 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
this is the sort of thing i vaguely dread to ask but how many other songs with 'rabbit' in the title are there?

Chas & Dave obv, which beats FAT M slightly

does R Kelly's 'Summer Bunnies' count?

Out of the dozen songs I've heard by Florence the first single was worst by a mile...

Michael Jackson's death is a pop event, but I still don't feel like ticking re-entries unless they truly are singing to the present, as opposed to being a contrast to the present - though the presence of Jackson's music everywhere helps make the Noisettes' track even more pitiful and intolerable in its using the past as something pale and blah and respectable.

Basement Jaxx - always were hundred degrees too cold for me

La Roux surprises and pleases me with her giddiness on "Bulletproof."

I don't remember whatever it was I disliked about Florence & The Machine's previous music, so I'm not all that amazed by this song's unexpected color and variety, which doesn't stop her from sounding affectedly detached anyway, but both she and the song put out in the chorus. So, TICK for her and Roux.

(Surprised and not unhappy about "Smooth Criminal" being a Michael Jackson necessity in the fan's mind but wonder where "I Want You Back" and "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" are.)

Ticked "Earth Song" based on [livejournal.com profile] freaktigger commentary, reservation-laden ticks for La Roux and Florence. Noisettes can go die.
