Annoyingly I think Kaleidoscope by Kelis is 1999, otherwise that would be a definite contender.

I'll have a proper look over the weekend, but my album of the decade is:
Under the Surface by Marit Larsen
koganbot: (Default)

[personal profile] koganbot 2009-05-29 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Albums not really representative of what I listen to (the first part of the decade was all about hip-hop and r&b for me, Trick Daddy and Trina and Ca$h Money and Timbo and Collipark and Swizz Beats etc. but the albs are usually spotty; as are albs by CSS and t.A.T.u. and Toby Keith and Kelly Clarkson and LeAnn Rimes and Taylor Swift and a whole number of others who would be up there as my Musical Artists Of The Decade).

PANTHEON

1. Ashlee Simpson Autobiography
2. Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP
3. Montgomery Gentry Carrying On
4. Big & Rich Horse Of A Different Color
5. Britney Spears Blackout
6. DJ Xclusive Cornerstone Mixtape 26 (March '01)
7. Paris Hilton Paris
8. The Ying Yang Twins Me And My Brother
9. Global Hits 2002

HONORABLE MENTION (no particular order, and some of these e.g. Fannypack might well belong in the Pantheon but I haven't listened to them recently)

Aly & AJ Insomniatic
Fannypack See You Next Tuesday
Marit Larsen Under The Surface
Kelly Clarkson Breakaway
Taylor Swift Taylor Swift
Rio Baile Funk: Favela Booty Beats
M.I.A./Diplo Piracy Funds Terrorism
Bring It On soundtrack
t.A.T.u. Dangerous and Moving
Ashlee Simpson I Am Me
Miranda Lambert Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Danity Kane Welcome To The Dollhouse
CSS Donkey

Montgomery Gentry "She Couldn't Change Me"; obnoxious and in your face, not the best thing on Carrying On (and this upload is a shitty rip), but it grabbed me immediately and is what motivated me to pay consistent attention to country for the first time in my life. I love how it's hard rock and slick rock at the same time, with twangs on top to declare itself "country" but is really country claiming ownership of rock. Meanwhile it just plants itself in your road and says "Deal with me":

Big & Rich "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy," not nearly my favorite on Horse Of A Different Color, but a hilarious video. Unfortunately, one of lj's peculiarities is that, while they let me embed dailymotion vids in posts, they don't let me embed them in comments, so here's the link. Anyhow, is full-throttle into disco and funk and rock and whatever they feel like tossing in, including enough countryisms to get this on the country stations, hence a redefinition of country that explicitly cites the genre's black sources and insists that anything can potentially belong in its parade.

Long list...

Pretty great decade!!

[identity profile] chuckeddy.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily my absolute favorites (several of which Frank already touched on, including his top four and the Ying Yang Twins -- I'll try to avoid redundancy), and not in any order whatsoever, and undoubtedly incomplete (since I haven't really been keeping a running list -- I culled these from a bunch of different lists) but all worth nominating anyway (we are nominating these for some kinda poll, right?), so what the heck:

I-F – Mixed Up In The Hague Vol. 1 (Panamamix)
Lifter Puller – Fiestas + Fiascos (The Self-Starter Foundation)
Drive-By Truckers – Southern Rock Opera (Soul Dump)
(Various) – Epop Version_01 (Epic)
Gore Gore Girls – Gore Gore Girls (Get Hip)
Gary Allan – Alright Guy (MCA Nashville)
Toby Keith – Pull My Chain (Dreamworks)
Toby Keith – Unleashed (Dreamworks)
Gore Gore Girls – Up All Night (Get Hip)
Brooks & Dunn- Red Dirt Road (Arista Nashville)
Toby Keith – Shock’N Y’all (Dreamworks)
Montgomery Gentry – You Do Your Thing (Columbia)
Little Big Town – The Road To Here (Equity)
Montgomery Gentry – Some People Change (Columbia)
Toby Keith – White Trash With Money (Show Dog Nashville/Universal)
The Hold Steady – Separation Sunday (French Kiss)
Skye Sweetnam – Noise from the Basement (Capitol)
Field Mob – From Tha Roota To Tha Toota (MCA)
Brooks & Dunn – Steers & Stripes (Arista Nashville)
(Various) – Bring It On (Playtone/Epic/Sony Music Soundtrax)
Deana Carter – The Story Of My Life (Vanguard)
Jamey Johnson – That Lonesome Song (Mercury)
Collin Raye – Never Going Back (Time Life)
Uz Jsme Doma – Cod-Liver Oil (Skoda)
Miranda Lambert - Kerosene (Epic)

Guess it's obvious what my favorite genre was this decade. (For what it's worth, said genre has never been my favorite genre in any previous decade.)

PS) WHY DO I HAVE TO RESET MY PASSWORD EVERY FUCKING TIME I POST ON LIVEJOURNAL??? SORRY, BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I'M NOT FORGETTING IT; THE SITE IS. CHRIST!

[identity profile] chuckeddy.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, hadn't noticed the Frank already mentioned Bring It On. Suprised, though, that he listed Miranda Lambert's second album instead of her superior first one, which I thought he also preferred.
koganbot: (Default)

[personal profile] koganbot 2009-05-29 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
See Dave below on Miranda. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has more that I like and love than the first, even if the first has one that I love more than anything on the second, and does far better wimpy ballads than the second one does. But the second one doesn't do very many ballads.

[identity profile] chuckeddy.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops, left out this one:

(Various) Motel Lovers: Southern Soul From The Chitlin Circuit(Trikont)

Reissues/Archival stuff is impossible; would require a whole 'nother thread (not that I'm suggesting one, or would promise to post on one if one existed.)

Also just remembered that I might actually prefer Ashlee's second album to her first, and/or (less likely) Fannypack's first album to their second; should maybe go back and relisten sometime this year to make sure.

Artist of the Decade: I'd probably go with Toby Keith, since that's who I'd almost always rather listen to, even if something in my conscience says Timbaland or Eminem might deserve it more.

Band of the Decade: Montgomery Gentry.

Lil Wayne, Trick Daddy, and White Stripes might well rank among my 10 favorite artists of the decade, for sheer consistency, but I don't think any of them has made a single album I'd rank among my 40 or so favorites. (I might rank Kid Rock higher, actually, even though his most significant album of the decade came out in 1998. Though by contrast, my favorite Timabaland album -- Welcome To Our World with Magoo -- came out in 1997. Come to think of it, maybe most his best stuff came out too early for the '00s.)

PS) Livejournal just forget my password again, by the way. I give up.

[personal profile] koganbot 2009-05-29 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
These aren't nominations, just statements of what you like, so you should list the ones that others have already mentioned, just so that we'll know which ones you like.

[identity profile] chuckeddy.livejournal.com 2009-05-30 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, in that case, I'd say that these albums that Frank listed should also be counted among my '00s favorites (and most of them, I like more than most of the ones on my long list posted earlier):

Ashlee Simpson Autobiography
Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP
Montgomery Gentry Carrying On
Big & Rich Horse Of A Different Color
The Ying Yang Twins Me And My Brother
Global Hits 2002
Aly & AJ Insomniatic
Fannypack See You Next Tuesday
Taylor Swift Taylor Swift
M.I.A./Diplo Piracy Funds Terrorism
Ashlee Simpson I Am Me
Miranda Lambert Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Also I replayed the first two Ashlee albums today, and was surprised to find how much I prefered her debut record. Second Fannypack album was sounding better than I'd remembered, too.

Livejournal just forget my password again

meant "forgot," obviously

Most on this list would make an expanded Honorable Mentions list, if I were to do one.

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
My Top Twenty looks something like this:

Ashlee Simpson - Autobiography

Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP

Rachel Stevens - Come and Get It
Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Pt. 1
Brian Wilson - SMiLE

Margaret Berger - Pretty Scary Silver Fairy

Contenders: Miranda Lambert - Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Ashlee Simpson - I Am Me, Busdriver - Fear of a Black Tangent, V/A - Hyphy Hitz

Will probably place in 20 from 2009: The-Dream Love v. Money

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
From stevem's list, Alan Braxe and Richard X have an outside chance, from Greg's Kelly C. Breakaway, from Kat's Cassie(!!!!! totally forgot! Would be in 10-20).

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Re: Miranda, hmmmmm I just listen to her second album more, I guess. Not unlike The-Dream actually, in that the peaks are higher on the first one but I usually grab the second one to play as-an-album. (Helps that I have a physical-not-digital copy of her second album but not first.)

"Try Again" wasn't on an Aaliyah album, it was on the Romeo Must Die soundtrack, which had other good stuff but overall the quality varied quite a lot.

Re: in no order whatsoever

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it was on my copy of the red one that unfortunately ended up as her last one. I think it was self-titled. Maybe that was just a UK thing tho?
koganbot: (Default)

Re: in no order whatsoever

[personal profile] koganbot 2009-05-31 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Wiki says it was on the German re-issue of Aaliyah in 2004, but otherwise it wasn't on that album at all. It was on a couple of posthumous compilation albums: I Care 4 U and Ultimate Aaliyah.

Re: in no order whatsoever

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Weird. I'm sure I don't have the German reissue. Hrmm. Will try to dig out CD; is definitely the self-titled one, anyway and whether or not it has 'Try Again' on it deserves to be on the list.

Re: in no order whatsoever

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
No, you are right moggy. It was stuck on the end of the UK CD edition of the s/t.

[identity profile] mcarratala.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a top one consisting of:
Ghostface Killah: Fishscale

Otherwise, I rather post-album.
