and when the sun rises, he watches over me

It is ridiculous that I am STILL finding candidates for my ever-growing end-of-year list. The latest comes courtesy of the soulbounce.com year-end round-ups - it is a quite, quite gorgeous piece of aqueously lovely soul by The Foreign Exchange and Muhsinah called 'Daykeeper'. They had an album out this year - and this is so good that I immediately scurried to Amazon MP3 to buy it - yet this is the first I've heard of them.

Blimey acqueous is right. The tippy-tappy drums are a bit annoying though. It reminds me a little of the stuff Nu Yorican Soul were doing back in the mid-90s (though that was all cover versions anyway I think).

The tippy-tap is what saves this for me. Otherwise it is just the guy in my row on the airplane humming himself to sleep.

You're not the only one - I just heard the new Lady Sovereign single yesterday and that's going straight into my Top 20 songs of the year!
