I want Alexandra to do a big diva house version of it.

For some reason, even though I've been aware how it's become this huge squatting cliche, I've managed to actually avoid hearing it for years. I still like both the Cohen and Buckley versions (the Wainwright I thought was a disappointment at the time), and would like to hear more "interpretations" of it. (Though not by Eoghan Quigg.)

I don't know what Diana's claw of doom is, but I voted for it. Is it, like, her voice?

nothing! it's fine - most unfair to single her out for this. plus it's better than her voice and songs.

Also, as an American, most of your No 1 singles this year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_100_number-one_hits_of_2008_(United_States)) have been pretty good. You should be smug about your charts!

Dilemma

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't in good conscience give Scouting for Girls a tick if I have not also ticked the View. However, I also cannot in good conscience untick Katy Perry or the charts. I'll untick Palin ONLY because she's so unrelated to horrible POP things of the year. In fact, she was an awesome Pop Thing, just a horrible Political Thing.

VIEW vs. SCOUTING FITE.

Re: Dilemma

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
re: Palin, I know right! The only way to even put up with her presence was to conceptualise her as a purely Pop Thing.

Hi-5...

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
...to my fellow Ting Tings tickers. I can't remember when I last hated a band this much, even Katy Perry doesn't annoy me to this level.

I have still not read an adequate defence of them, either.

I'd never heard the Bond song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRg1CwAYbfE

Bond b-bond bond bond...

I'm not sure what's worse about the song's first verse: that he emulates Roger Moore only because of the rhyme scheme (if he'd found a rhyme for "Connery" I'd be impressed!) or that the first film he references is THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. WTF.

Re: Wow.

[identity profile] skyecaptain.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Thought of the minute: Is High School Musical indirectly responsible for the possibility of Scouting for Girls escaping any given performance without getting a wedgie?

[identity profile] chuckeddy.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I like the Ting Tings and Katy Perry albums (in that order.) Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" will probably make my top ten singles list of the year. It's great.

Had I made nominations, I probably would have nominated:

-- John Rich’s Republican bootlicking
>
> -- Convoluted critics bending over backwards to blame their
> entirely predictable dislike of Katy Perry on her supposed
> homophobia.
>
> -- The warped idea that anybody should care about a

> Roses album in 2008
>
> -- Digital promos replacing ones I can hold in my hand.

(That said, neither the Metallica nor Guns N Roses albums are COMPLETELY horrible. In fact, I kind of *wish* they were even worse; they'd be more fun to talk about that way.)

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I love digital promos. They have basically saved me from being buried alive by jiffy bags and CDs this year.

Katy Perry has a very strange attitude to/relationship with/obsession with homosexuality, but it's not really offensive, and there are many many more things to dislike her for.

Scouting for Girls are an 07 hate really. Shes So Lovely has almost reached Place Your Hands status for me, when even a snippet of it makes me laugh for no reason.

Ting Tings for the victory.

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I might switch to MGMT - they're not one of the three worst things on the list, but they are pretty boring, and the barrage of end-of-year lists means they have a sadly prominent place in my brain right now.

You are CORRECT.

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Tough call between Katy Perry and Scouting For Girls: Perry gets it because she is harder to avoid.

Is it too late...

[identity profile] lockedintheatti.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
...to nominate the Aled Jones / Terry Wogan christmas song? It is worse than everything on this list put together.

[identity profile] datura800.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like 6 of the things on that list. Some of it smacks a bit of tokenism.

[identity profile] pony-meat.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The Ting Tings are horrible. I have much love for both Katy Perry and HSM.

Clarification

I feel my vote for Glasvegas being the WORST THING IN THE UNIVERSE should carry extra authority since I have to live:

A) in Scotland
B) in close proximity to their wretched wretched album since Catherine likes it.

And I just listened to The View's "5Rebbeccas" for AYIPS and to my surprised I liked it! So I've unticked the View, even though I'd nominated them in the first place. They never were as bad as Scouting For Girls anyway.
