AYIP Supplement October 2008: Twee Handstands

Twelve AYIPS-eligible tracks entered the Top 75 in October, peaking anywhere from #41 to #74 inclusive. They range from Proper Teen Stars to people without even their own Wikipedia article – but our concern here is obviously what YOU think. So, what?

T.I.'s "Whatever You Like" (42.9%) and Sway's "Saturday Night Hustle" (35.7%) are in the September lead; that month suffers from 1) low voter turnout thus far, and 2) an unprecedentedly high DON'T LIKE ANY vote (21.4%, never before into double digits). As always, you can of course go back and vote in forgotten polls, or even change your mind.

Jeff correctly pointed out in last month's comments that I've forgotten to mention two DQs: "Disturbia" and "Tattoo", for which it took 9 and 28(!) weeks respectively from first entry to first fortyness.

BONUS AYIPS FACT: The longest chart run of a single peaking at #75 is... two weeks. This honour is actually shared between two singles: "Calibre Cuts" (which appears to be some kind of mix 12" or something) in May 1980, and "How Soon We Forget" by Colonel Abrams in August 1987. Robert Owens' "I'll Be Your Friend" held this distinction from December 1991 as well, but disqualified about five and a half years later(!), when the single notched up two more weeks, one of them at #25.

いけばなは、来月から、クラッシック（初心者１＆２のテキストの花型）と３＆４のテキストのフリースタイルのテーマから
先生が決めたテーマでいけることになった。
そういえば、「カラテキッド」という映画にあったよね。
試合までの短期間に飛躍的な上達をするために、型を体で覚えるために、お掃除とかばかりさせられてるっていうの。

なんかこれ、今どきの人たちには辛すぎだけど、短期間で実力を飛躍的に向上させるには、これしかないかもね。

Frank and I have been talking about 'We Break The Dawn' on the Beyonce thread. Consensus is that the song is great, but Michelle completely fails to sell it. I wish it had been sent Fantasia Barrino's way, she'd've TORN IT UP.

'Summertime' is still utter bobbins, a totally lame and cheesy attempt to jump on the Daft Punk sampling bandwagon. Frustrating, given the quality of everything else Wiley's done this year.

I should probably youtube that Chase & Status track...Plan B was a great MC until he decided that he was only going to rap over an acoustic guitar. I saw him live at the TDK festival one year and it was totally waste.

Who cares about the rest.

'Where's My Brother?' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_PfzNdN_Kg) One of his best vocals ever I think, check the slur on "soldieerrrr". The grime forums were ablaze when this first emerged trying to work out who the titular brother was (Dizzee?) but my crew think he's anthropomorphising GRIME ITSELF.

Agree that Michelle fails to deliver "We Break The Dawn," and has perhaps the least interesting voice in all of r&b, but she doesn't bump into any of the furniture, so eventually the song delivers itself.

(Haven't had a chance to listen to any of the others listed here, so that's why "Dawn" is my only tick so far.)

(Michelle's voice has an interesting soft rasp to it, like a wimpier Brandy, but whether it can sell an song on its own...I don't know. She was born to be a girl group's third wheel.)

I wasn't wholly convinced by white Lies, but I gave it a tick bcos of the rather good bassline.

A bit too much cuteness, this lot, but some interesting stuff nevertheless.
