JUST IN

Also: the video for Danity Kane's Bad Girl has arrived!

Should we use this as an excuse for a long overdue Danity Kane thread? I THINK WE SHOULD.

Wow, I'm not sure what I think about that video: started off thinking EPIC WIN, love the concept (if not the cheap font at the start) and am so pleased that after the 'Damaged' debacle that DK's people have put some effort (and complimentary lighting) into this single. Um, is it actually from the Batman film, or is this some shameless bandwagon-hitchery and copyright-baiting? Anyway, by the mid-point I started leaning more towards FAIL - it's too busy, the simultaneous storylines really don't work because none of them have time to be fleshed out much beyond the basic scenario, and overall it just detracts from the song, which is TERRIFIC. The DK album really clicked for me a couple of weeks ago, this is one of my favourites (love the way that it's aimed as much at the feminist commentariat as at men - "they say I don't have no self-esteem, but it's my fashion"). Elsewhere, '2 Of You' = Xenomania if they'd been any good at all in the past few years and 'Pretty Boy' is just an awesome banger.

Yeah as much as I prefer 'Pretty Boy' now, I think 'Damaged' was the best choice for a lead single, it's more ear-catching and strange. Too bad it WASN'T PROMOTED ANYWHERE aaargh.

Surprisingly expensive. Sadly, they all look awful in it.

Is it for the new Batman thing? I don't really like 'Bad Girl' that much in comparison to, say, 'Pretty Boy,' 'Sucker For Love' and 'Ecstasy.'

I wish I had more time to reply to this as I really like 'Welcome To The Dollhouse' and think there are interesting things to be said about it but I have to go camping. Rubbish!

The album is my favorite of the year so far, but that's for the music, and as far as the ideas expressed through the lyrics, "Bad Girl" might as well be from an alien planet I don't care much about. "When the red light comes on I transform." From what to what? And so what? Great song though (my number two on the alb after "Pretty Boy"), love the polyphony, love the archaism used in service of the sluttiness. (So I guess the lyrics have some interest.) Agree with Lex on the video overcomplicating itself.

And if someone with actual music theory would like to comment on what's happening in the "ah-ah-ah" part of the music, which is what delivers the song to greatness for me, please do so. I like the combination of precision and flamboyance.

I can unequivocally say this has nothing to do with the new Batman film. Sorry, I don't get a chance to use unequivocally very often.

but I could be wrong.
