The "I Feel Love" Project, pt 1

Messiah - I Feel Love (7") [ysi]

A "project" inspired by a mental version of IFL just seen on the Royal Variety Performance, and also part of my "get your CD singles on to iTunes" project, but I thought this approach might be more inclusive. I'd love to see ppl chip in with covers, mixes, and songs "inspired by" (i.e. swiping the bass line of) the grand-mother of all electro bobbins. Obv contenders I have lying around include Curve's cover (from Ruby Trax, wahey!), Underworld's King of Snake, and that terrific Outlaws mash up with Higher State of Consciousness.

This cover by early-90s flash-in-the-pan Messiah is on the fun side, if a bit weak overall. Messiah better remembered for their Running-Man-sampling and totally storming Temple of Dreams of course.

Probably well-known to you British people, since it was a MASSIVE #3 HIT in your country (though still left off all Now compilations if I've read Poptimists thoroughly), here's Br0nski Be4t and M4rc A1mond's version (http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=21ZGJ4EHZR5W117UDOOBDE9HE4), in which someone thought it a good idea to medley "IFL" together with "Love to Love You Baby" and erm "Johnny Remember Me". The Bronskies' machinery clatters along very 85ishly, while Jimmy and Marc do their thing like one would expect them to.

Note: 8MB 7" vinyl rip.

Here's a remix of the Donna Summer IFL, by Patrick Cowley (http://s12.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1ZWQZ12SUJQAG2XJ73JD0L5G50/). He's rightly spotted that that bassline anticipation is as much a pivot of the song as the blissful floaty singing, and so gives you plenty of it. The chorus comes in nearly of often as in the original, but you've got look how much longer you're left waiting for it! Clue: track is nine minutes long.

oooer, hope the link stays up til thursday.

messiah's "there is no law" is one my favourite 'ardkore tracks evah, only lagging behind t99 & shaft & noise factory. are the samples in that from the running man? never seen it, so . . .

also, jc chasez's "one night stand" hem hem "interpolates" IFL in an IRONIC manner!

Verdict on Messiah

The Manix remix of 'Temple Of Dreams' is something I really must YSI soon.
