Poptimists Advent Calendar Day 6

It's pretty rare to find a new spin on the Xmas song. Secular Christmas records tend to fall into three broad areas:

- songs about the magic of Wobs for kids, generally Santa focussed.
- songs about how fun Wobs is eg Slade, Cheeky Girls
- songs about how rub and lonely Wobs is if you don't have yr HONEY eg Wham!, Blue Christmas, 100000x indie records

So red hats off to our 6th advent calendar entry...

Girls Aloud - Christmas Round At Ours

From the new GA Christmas disc, it's a kind of answer record to "Merry Xmas Everybody", a tedious family Christmas that is the reality of Slade's fun-fuelled ideal. It's not that the girls in the song hate Christmas, it's just they've seen it before and they'd rather be somewhere else, where the real fun's happening. "Too old for panto and too young for the sauce" - an early teenage family Christmas, not without affection but certainly without thrills (the odd mistletoe snog aside).

Tom, assuming all the poptimists who can grab this have now done so, you might want to post the URL for this on the ILM Chemistry thread. A cat's life is at stake!
