Criticarium

http://www.furia.com/all-idols/2007/ - Glenn McDonald's awesome bit of STATISTRY about the Pazz and Jop and Idolator polls is IN.

Yes yes the combined lists are interesting in their way but the real fun for thee critix among us is in discovering who our critical soulmates are via the magic of statistical correlation.

And OMG POPTIMIST HIVEMIND no less than 4 of mine are on this list (and another is Scott Woods who I kind of think of as a poptimist-by-proxy).

This is usually more interesting than the poll results themselves! I'm a lot more, er, de-centric(?) than I was last year. Who is Scott Woods? Name rings a bell.

No, it was Phil Dellio and Scott Woods who started Radio On, though Phil really was the publisher, instigator. Back in 1991.

Scott occasionally posts on my livejournal (doesn't have an account, so he posts anonymously, then signs his name).

Poptimists at least seem to have contributed to the "similarity" between Britney and Amerie.

I hadn't noticed either. Have to go look. I guess.

Jimmy Draper has probably indirectly contributed to Poptimists a lot thru me and [livejournal.com profile] koganbot.

Isn't Ken Tucker from NPR? I've seen him in my list in my similarity rankings and clicking through individual albums and tracks on my ballot.

Research needed: Steve Knopper?

Ken Tucker is a long-time rock critic, appeared in the Voice back in the day; also wrote for Entertainment Weekly about television and for all I know still does. I just now searched rockcritics.com and found this interview with him. Anyway, he's the guy who reviewed Aly & A.J. for NPR last year (and he voted for Insomniatic).

Yeah, Phil Dellio instigated Radio On (and always gave me too much credit--I think he just needed someone at the start to nod their head in agreement, and I just happened to be that guy). And yes, I am a PBP ("poptimist by proxy"), and occasionally post live journal entries sans account and with a proper signature.
