According to an MTV news story (bold emphasis added by me):

In the video, Ashlee hears voices — though they aren't in her head; they're the voices of her family, record executives, fans, haters and the media. The opinion overload is driving her crazy, so, according to the video's treatment, she seeks counseling. But her therapist, played by the song's producer, Timbaland, hasn't mastered the art of listening. He interrupts her in a strange drone that makes him sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown cartoons.

In other words, the person who wrote the piece hadn't been allowed to see the actual video, so didn't realize that it lacked Timbo. (My speculation is that Timbo couldn't get permission from his studio to appear. So the vidmaker used Freud instead, whose agent was much more cooperative.)

Or maybe there's a longer version of the vid with intro, and we have yet to see it. The video's TRL premiere is tomorrow. I think the song's hope for commercial success in the U.S. is dependent on a strong response from TRL voters. Got only thirteen spins on U.S. radio in the last week, ten of them on a station in Phoenix.

And yet somehow this is only the SECOND best 2007 teenpop video made inside the singer's head. After "Music Is My Boyfriend."

This video is pretty great, and the FAIL impulse was much much less strong for me in those first couple seconds (mostly due to POST-NOSEJOB RECOGNITION DIFFICULTIES) than with Britney's (which I think is way too weak, but definitely not a bad video).

Is it just me or is she referencing a lot of Ashlee Simpson show in-jokes? That weird cat-lady hat she wears in one section was part of an early photo shoot, and there are a few shots of her mit black hair.
