Let's Talk About Sechs
"Isn't sex the point of pop?" asks the Lex. I dunno about the point, maybe a point, but is there really a lot of sexy pop around? (And what would that mean anyway?)
I have (I think!) enabled ANONYMOUS COMMENTS on this post if anyone would like to use em. No, I haven't, ignore that bit.

I kind of like that PCDs (in terms of image) and Nicole (in terms of that one song) actually take submissiveness to an extreme - as a theme it exists across pop, pretty much, but few popstars strip out all the extraneous material surrounding/justifying it to say: here is the core of what we, and all of you, are saying, "I'll do whatever you like".
I disagree with your conflation of objectification and subjugation, though. I don't think anyone would deny that PCDs promote objectification of themselves, at least, though prob not all women; but I don't see them as subjugated women any more than I see JoJo ("I would do anything for you") or Beyoncé (whose entire solo career is based around the idea of being in sexual or emotional thrall to a man) as subjugated. Being objectified is a double-edged sword, yeah - as delineated in 'Beep' - but it can be empowering, and it can be positive. People tend to like it when other people find them hot.
