"Isn't sex the point of pop?" asks the Lex. I dunno about the point, maybe a point, but is there really a lot of sexy pop around? (And what would that mean anyway?)

Well, Kim is specifically trying to be scary. But then again, I spent a good deal of my adolescence being scared of Grace Slick, and I managed to be scared of Madonna in "Into The Groove." I scare easily. But what I'm saying is that I find such menace (the way Grace and Madonna do it more than Kim, probably) attractive, at times.

I can hear voices that sound sexy to me (Diana Ross in "Swept Away"), or even instrumental effects that sound sexy (the Zombies' "Time Of The Season"), but "sound sexy" doesn't mean I, like, get an erection when I hear it.

I guess a better way of phrasing it would be, why is being scared by Lil' Kim a negative thing? Why is Lil' Kim not a global icon, etc etc etc.

Using a different example: when I was younger I felt *very* uncomfortable listening to this one track on Carleen Anderson's True Spirit (I think it was 'Morning Loving'?) I loved the rest of the album but the sechsy-sechsy bits on that track just weren't enjoyable to listen to. This might have been because a) as a young teenager I didn't know how exactly to react to the sound of someone shagging b) it was just a badly written/performed song or most likely c) I was worried my Mum would come into the living room (where the cd player was) and tell me off. Anyway, I didn't enjoy it. Unless the reason was actually b) I'm sure I'd like the song today.
