Wot no I Know Him So Well?

BBC 6 Music have unveiled their Top 40 Duets as voted for by their listeners. But which ones are the best? Canon rules apply, THIRTEEN ticks across the lot. Some stretch the definition of 'duet' slightly!

[Poll #1073427]

[identity profile] friend-of-tofu.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
Nearly voted for that too, but argh, only 13 ticks and far mroe than I expected were really v good.

This list makes me realise I am more likely to think duets are overrated than any other kind of pop!

[identity profile] martinv.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, fairly interesting definitely of 'duets' there. Lots of songs that are x band featuring y guest vocalist? Band Aid?!

They need a dictionary.

[identity profile] lockedintheatti.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:22 am (UTC)(link)
But surely it still counts as a duet if it's lead singer of band x and y guest vocalist singing together? I would, anyway. Which reminds me, I was Born on Christmas Day by St Etienne & him off of the Charlatans is great. I'd much rather that was up there than half of those.

Agreed

Especially in the case of 'Teardrop' - Liz Fraser wasn't even credited on it! If that's a duet then EVERYTHING Massive Attack have ever done is a duet.

To be fair to 6Music, their website only actually talks about "collaborations" though I've seen this reported as "duets". So the innacuracy may not be theirs.

Nelly and Kelly!!!

Lex UR so right.

So is lockedintheatti! 'Best Things in Life...' = one of my first ever favourite songs. LOVE IT.

Hardly any of these are especially inspiring, particularly when you think about how many AMAZING duets have existed in the world! WHERE IS 'DILEMMA'??

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
wouldn't go without: nancy + lee, PSBs + dusters, run dmc + aerosmith, inspirals + MES, KLF and tammy

Er, how is it that no-one has yet mentioned Beyonce and Jay-Z? 'Crazy In Love' is a genius duet, probably in my all-time top 5.

Spot on about Brandy & Monica though.

[identity profile] lockedintheatti.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
stretching the definition slightly, as both lead vocalists are in the same group, but my ipod has just shuffled onto 'Turntable' by TLC, which, as it comes from the third album, is a duet between T-Boz & Chilli, and is one of my favourite TLC singles. Never understood why it wasn't a hit.

further decent duets

[identity profile] piratemoggy.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
-Poe & Conjure One- That Song I Can't Remember The Name Of Off The Top Of My Head
-Kelis and ODB- Got Yr Money
-Kelis and Nas- In Public (poss. favourite duet ever actually now I think about it)
-Abs and Eve- Seven Ways
etc etc etc etc etc

At least the Babyshambles/Kate Moss thing wasn't on there.

And oi, what's all this not ticking '7 Seconds?'

Kelis and Nas- In Public (poss. favourite duet ever actually now I think about it)

"The pussy or the mouth, that is the question / Like Shakespeare, but my erection is the case here." Heee.

I'm appalled by the lack of Brandy and Monica, though. 'The Boy is Mine' = automatic win.

I think my dislike of Fairytale... puts me in the minority. Sorry!

The video to Bowie and Bing is a joy, I almost ticked it on that basis.

Fairytale

SENTIMENTAL RUBBISH.

A while ago there was a conversation about "the worst song that everyone likes", this would have been on my list if I had thought of it back then.

I refuse to vote in this poll on account of it being rubbish.

The best kind of duet is the hip-hop argument, clearly.

[identity profile] ijgrieve.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not voting because I don't know enough of the songs.

Haha that is A GAZILLION TIMES COOLER. I love that the Telegraph is probably the only publication who would put Blu & Sean into their top 10 (AND RIGHTLY SO!)

Also Salt'n'Pepa and Althea & Donna as duets, haha, nice rule-streeeetching there.

No mention of Allure ft. 112's cover of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's 'All Cried Out'? I'm very disappointed.
