Don't cha?

[Poll #1043267]

Let's see which direction the Poptimist compass is pointing!

INDEFENSIBLE:

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
- Kate Nash tops Poptimists last.fm charts
- Poptimists do not care about Nicole Scherzinger

????? !!!!!!

Considering some of the people Poptimists DO care about...

Check the weekly tracks chart and die inside!

one more play than Nicole S/aly &AJ. same number as MIA-Jimmy. no biggy - it's in the top 5 - it's on Now 67. that's poptimism for you.

So why aren't Kanye/Fergie/Timbaland in the poptimists top 5 then? Tying poptimism to the top 10 is too easy and open to too much shit. like Nash.

Oh it's only the tracks chart, hardly counts rly - still good Judge Pop material tho I agree.

yeah, ppl are actually playing more stuff by Rihanna, Robyn, MIA, Tori Amos, but the Kate Nash tracks are not split, cos she has just the one song.

(We can give the high placing of B&S a bye cos of the sinister birthday. er ??)

B&S are perennial top-5s in the artists chart - they're comfort food for a lot of Poptimists because of the community's ancestry I guess!

As I said on my lj I am sensing RESISTANCE to my repping for Nicole and am consequently feeling bolshy. What is people's problem with r&b divas, srsly?

I haven't looked on the Popjustice forums to check their reaction to her. Frankly, I daren't.

Mixed - i'd say about 70/30 against.

In other Popjustice news you may be interested in, Paris is apparently now working with 90s dance producer Sash!

'What is people's problem with r&b divas, srsly?'

Why the lack of discernment tho Lex? I don't think I've ever seen you criticise ANY R&B diva whether for putting out a bad record, saying something stupid or anything else. sorry if you have done and i missed it. I can understand the defensiveness based on an 'they are the underdog, better targets are everywhere else' argument because there is a basic truth at the base of that but the idea that they're all infallible and can do no pop wrong doesn't work for them any more than it works for any other type out there. i know you think this of Madonna too tho!

better targets as in 'more deserving'

ok i saw your 'i didn't like PCDs at first' thing and can retract my point now - we were in agreement over them totally at first but whereas 'Buttons' was your conversion i just wrote them off i guess. i promise to listen to it again and cut NS some slack tho.

btw you are gonna like maybe even love my two half hour mixes of 95 RnB/some rap i'll put up on Friday (Nuttin Nyce!)

As with Paris it works the other way round! It's not because r&b is my favourite genre that I never criticise it and appear to think it infallible - it's because it IS infallible 99% of the time and that there are so few criticisms to be made and so few bad records that it's my favourite genre. The one r&b diva I never really felt was Ashanti but that she turned round and came up with 'Only U' so that taught me.

I mean, obv I am discerning, there is r&b which is better and r&b which is worse, but even the worse r&b is better than most other genres.

Research says there was a thread by [livejournal.com profile] byebyepride on the topic but no actual judgement.

The problem is, if we do a thread, then lots of people who may have listened to her this week just to check out what the deal is may listen to her again, or listen to more than just the one song (see I take this stuff seriously!), and then Lex will arm himself and come looking for us b/c she'll be on the last.fm charts for two weeks in a row!
