They both have the Kaiser Chiefs => they BOTH LOSE.

Popjustice list is disappointingly rub, actually.

Popjustice list is VERY disappointing.

Actually, Mercury Prize is proven BETTER by science by dint of having 2 records I really like as opposed to 0.

It's basically Black People Don't Exist (apart from token 'street' 'edgy' names) vs Black People Don't Exist (unless their music is so weak and diluted that it doesn't scare us), innit.

a lotta covers there, no? i count at least 5?

ROBBIE WILLIAMS? KAISER CHIEFS? Fuck off. PJ might be well over the shark if this is serious.

Rachel or Verbalicious to win, please.

I still think "Radio" is excellent and was glad to see it in there.

Underwhelming though. And it could have been worse - "Dakota"!

[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well yes, to be fair the "British, last 12 months, pop single" field is not a huge one. But even so Mylo and the 411 are surely the soft end of the wedge.

Radio

Robbie listens to a Joy Division song, sacks his co-writer Guy Chambers and decides to have a go himself. I remember him nattering to Fearne on TOTP excitedly saying "I'm learning the keyboard! You might have noticed that you can play this riff with one hand!"

Not a classic, but memorable I guess. Still p1sses on Kaiser Cheese.

Didn't he sack Guy C and replace him w/Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy? I am sure I recall a Gaurdian interview with Duffy saying "Yes our new songs are a fierce critique of the pop system which will undermine it from with in", and the pop system replied "Get one Crazy Frog".

Indeed. Accordign to the werk database they've written a song together called "Like Barry Gibb". Lord only knows what that could do to the pop system if unleashed on the public!

Mercury has 1 album I really like (although haven't listened to for a while, uh oh will it endure oh who cares?) and 1 that I think would make an awesome EP (Goat! Team).

PopJustice £20 Music Prize has 'Oh My Gosh', 'Ooh La La' (please win), 'Negotiate With Love', 'Wake Me Up' which are all great, and 'Crazy Chick' which is okay. Therefore PJ wins, but I am still more disappointed in PJ for the same reasons as umlauts.

[identity profile] byebyepride.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Mercury has two and a half albums I like; PJ has one single I love, and quite a few I think are pretty good. So pj has it, but it's surprisingly close. Uniting Nations to win PJ, if only to confirm the H2 theory. (Actually losing confirms it even better, esp. if they miss out to Mylo who is the indie-ist rip off of proper trash dance).

In which I temporarily turn into DJ Martian

Tim who sits next to me at work has just done a 4-date tour with a band called Bumsnogger.

Hurrah! I've just gone out and made my long overdue purchase of the MIA album. And Enter the Wu-Tang, as the tape broke.
