U-U-U-Utah Saints vs the nu-rave remixers

There is a remix of 'Something Good' over at Popjustice.

  • Hurrah for nu-rave bandwagon inspiring people to do stuff like this :)
  • Except this is a bit rubbish :(

It takes far too long to get going and doesn't improve on the original. As far as I can tell the additions include some 'piaow' noises and a continuous drumbeat throughout. Is there any point in remixing something where the original, recognizeable bits are clearly the best?

Once again this is a case of good idea, poor execution. What they SHOULD have done was stick to the iron laws of bosh remixing: a) speed it up b) add some totally unrelated synth melody c) have some Dutch dude rapping "I cannot believe this is hardcore!" or similar during the middle eight.

Sadly this is just Part #2936 of Kat's Ongoing Disappointment With Nu-Rave.

Without clicking (as I have to get ready to go out) is this the Van She doodah? Cos I saw this and thought THAT MUST BE THE BEST THING EVER

    Boo if it's not :(

Tho their remix of Gravity's Rainbow by the Klaxons is the most awesome thing EVAR.

Seeing as this was the first CD I ever bought to christen my spanking new CD player and therefore has sentimental value, I would have expected something more. Tis too slow and has lost its punch.

While we are talking about remixes, that remix of "Konichiwa Bitches" that Matt DC posted the other day is REALLY AWFUL. :(

But the Braxe 80s thing he posted is amazing so that's OK.

i thought so too! and was a bit upset. is difficult to imagine how a decent remix would work without ruining what is adorable about the original

it's not great is it! i put it in the poptimism podcast cos a) it is robyn b) looks like an ACTUAL release is imminent c) the peter-gunn bass went rather well with another submitted track!

The Konichiwa remix made me realise what Ronan and [Unknown site tag] get so upset about with 'eclectic dance'.

    ok. i don't get you.

my take is that the remix just sort of tramples on the mood of the original song and makes something new and a bit worse for it.

The Unknown LJ tag is RickyT - I failed to badger properly.

Yes, I think that about this specific remix too - but in a more general sense the eclecticism (lets throw in loads of different noises/styles/everythings) ruins the focus of the track (its build up to the payoff of the synths coming in).

I got bored of the remix pretty quickly but I do tend to like remixes when it sounds like the remixers having a fight with the original rather than trying to enhance it.

Where it falls down is that Trentemoller won't stick to a fvcking beat. Good copshow noises though.

It's a lot better than the original! Still shit though yes.

the hidden secret of nu-rave: IT IS PROG

"Reswizzle (and then release) the AMAZING unreleased second album they recorded"

does that mean the later "Two" was actually a third album. v confusing. Two = patchy but ace in spots
