Yeah, I was wincing at the indie. Particularly the indie I bought (almost always unheard, and almost always hugely disappointing).

1999 was a bit of a turning point for me really and more or less a death knell for my indie-loving self. Also it's fairly evident that the NME had nothing really to latch onto, which is presumably why it embraced The Strokes so wholeheartedly (only two years later - feels like far more).
