This is about Proving By Science how good an album really is. Unfortunately it appears that EVERY album ever's true worth amounts to just 71% as Madonna's 'Like A Prayer' curiously scores the same as 'Thriller' and 'Please'. Enough of this 80s mediocrity! Now, if you please, join me in rating the following tracks from Pulp's 'Different Class' album out of ten:

Botherd about this album, tbh. I had it on tape and listened to it about three times. I mean, I ran an indie disco ffs! I didn't NEED to listen to it.

I still like 'Something Changed' an awful lot though. Mostly because it never got played at indie discos.

I think I owned a free copy which came with...something or other once. Listened to it only a few times. It's not objectionable but it's so bloody MEDIOCRE, why on earth I would ever want to listen to it above anything else I can't imagine.

This goes doubly for the singles which seem to get a quite disproportionate amount of love for the solid 7/10 "mehs" which they are.

7/10 is a 'quite good really', not a 'meh'. Clearly you are feeling the Pulp love too.

This is a mediocre album, particularly when stacked up next to This Is Hardcore.

Pulp's only truly GREAT moment was 'Like A Friend', I think I would put 'Disco 2000' into this category were it not for my reluctance to ever hear it again due to its being massively overplayed.

'Common People' is totally meh.

My personal theory is that she (or her handlers) planned it so that that the news would come out on probably the one day out of the year when it would be swamped by something else (the US elections).

Actually, she was upstaged by Faith Hill, who forgot to be a gracious loser at the CMAs but claims that she wasn't at all upset, in fact was simply joking (like fellow Dem Kerry, huh?). This was the one story that broke through the mass of election-day coverage.

possibly not reflected in how i voted for the tracks, but at the time it was one of those albums with some RLY good songs scattered between okish songs - but over prolonged listens you got quite affectionate to the ok-ish ones.

i just relistened (on iTunes music store previews) to them all and Live Bed Show is the runt that i really grew to like for eg.

Mine is prob "Pencil Skirt". It has what may (with quite some competition) be the #1 jarvisrofl lines of the album as well:

I have realised I have no idea what 'Bar Italia' sounds like, despite playing this album about 9,760 times over the summer. I concluded it was probably midrange mark worthy on the basis I clearly don't skip it.

Yes, that's it. The lyrics on the verses are totally evocative for me, although I think the album is pretty strong on that front all the way through, isn't it? Although (for me) the reason this album is so good because Jarvis pulls a dozen great melodies out of his hat, I love the lyrics all the way through. (And I'm not a lyrics person at all.)
