Poptimism

Thanks to all who came along to Poptimism, and sorry for the earlier cut-off (right in the middle of "Missing You" by John Waite!) - I had a good time though and I hope you all did too.

This Poptimism will be remembered as the Night of the Dancefloor Killer - Carsmile playing My Chemical Romance and me and Tim playing Chely Wright both proved brutally effective at sending people back to their chairs!

The next one is on NOVEMBER 10TH, which is a FRIDAY. We will be playing only NUMBER ONE UK HIT SINGLES. It will be my LAST STAND as a regular Poptimism DJ (until some point next spring, hopefully).

We also now have a well-stocked waiting list for guest DJs once again - hurrah!

I imagine that the point of the Chely was other than dancefloor-related?

See if Carsmile had played what he'd threatened promised then we wouldn't have had that MCR moment.

Was there a new Busted song played? I am guessing this purely on who was on the dancefloor giving it loads - Cis, Matt DC etc while everyone else had a bit of a relax.

playing MCR was completely separate to the other thing.

also, IT'S GREAT, what's the matter with you lot?

um, tom, did you pick the bits of paper up?

what WAS the song you threatened to play?

I'm pretty certain I've never heard it before, which is identically equal to it not having been palyed at Poptimism before - I've never ever heard a Busted song apart from there!

Do ne of youse guys haf an opinion bout Jonas Bros., who r 'merikin Busted? Jus got dropt by Columbia despite rulin Radio Disney all summer. Play chords lyk Sex Pistols but sound as cuddly as Bay City Rollers.

My only opinion is that I want to hear them as soon as humanly possible :)

People prefer to dance to something they know, I think. If only someone could come up with a format where you could be sure the crowd would be largely familiar with pretty much all the tunes played...

my favourite thing is to dance to music i don't know but instantly love. i demand psychic implants for all DJs.

Which Chely Wright did he play? The only song of hers I know is the excellent "Single White Female," which is quite danceable.

Oh yeah, heard that too, though a while ago so I can't recall what it sounds like, though I remember it got some people muttering "single white fascist." Was Tim playing it for shock effect?

ALthough I'm a great fan of "Bumper of my SUV" I disclaim all knowledge of it being my idea to play it (apart from anything else, I wouldn't have had the nerve as a guest dj to try something so blatantly dancefloor-murdering).

But when Tom said "shall I play BOMSUV?" I was all "YES" obv.
