The Lex 20p Indie Prize Was Won By...

THE AUTOMATIC. I much enjoyed seeing Matt DC chase a visibly shaken Lex around the dancefloor wielding the sacred twenty pence piece.

Actually the Automatic should not have won according to the voting, but I lost my CD with Lallen and the Pipettes on and have never knowingly owned a Camera Obscura record, so they got it - also "Monster" turned out to rock the Poptimism house so they are worthy winners.

The votes in full:

Kasabian: minus 17 points.
Test Icicles: 4 points
Feeling: 8 points
The Guillemots: 13 points
Kooks: 16 points
Young Knives: 22 points
Automatic: 27 points, WINNER
Pipettes: 31 points
Camera Obscura: 34 points
Lily Allen: 35 points

this is what happened in both other music prizes this week as well, Peter Robinson only owns Girls Aloud CDs, nothing else, and Simon Frith lost the Richard Hawley CD down the back of the sofa...

I told everyone that the song played after the Automatic (Girls Aloud?) was clearly a Lex-based sting!

What did Sis play that was based on Booker T's "Soul Limbo"? That was pretty good.

= "back to the limbo" by ABS (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=AD15439639B5A735), i think (are they really just called ABS?)

(my friend T was very impressed by yrs and marna's rigour as bookreaders btw)

Well when you've sat right in front of the stage reading Jonathan Strange while everybody else is trying to appreciate the Mystery Jets, you can read anywhere. (I was waiting for Goldfrapp to come on). Anyway, nothing wrong with reading a book in a place with good music, beer and nice friends.

i agree! and T was delighted

Isn't that Abs as in previously of 5ive? I would go and check but I just packed my copy of his really-very-listenable solo album and I think there was a song called 'back to the limbo' on it.

His solo album is called "Abstract Theory"! Abs for Dictator for Life!

To be fair, I'd vote for him if his election campaign sounded anything like 'Seven Ways.' And I'm a politics student.

oops epiphany

i was a bit drunked and became obsessed with:
a. the SIZE OF MY HANDS (=too small acc.me at the time) (er they look fine the smornin)
b. the phrase "my dirty brane" -- it is really very fine and VERY POP (this remains true in the throbbing light of sobriety)

I think that's probably the best description of an awards ceremony I've ever heard. I would comment more coherently on the fact I think the right band won but a) you probably know that already and b) my parents' keyboard is really hard to type on for some reason.

Other prime moments of Lex-baiting from last night

1. Various Poptimists surrounding him during Teenage Kicks while vigorously air-punching, thus forcing him to stand on the dancefloor looking sulky.

2. Convincing him that the original version of Life On Mars (which he LOVED) was released by Usher when he was 14.

3. Pointing and laughing while he was PLAYING AIR GUITAR.

I don't remember any of that or any of the Indie Prize or anything of, um, anything.

I woke up at 6am having forgotten to take m contacts out. WORLD OF PAIN. So glad I had foresight to take today off.

Customer Service Request

Wld it b possible 2 tll me about the music? I haf heard men-e 4 the 1st time only yesterday, only once.

My votes:

Lily
The Automatic
The Kooks
(Kasabian near miss)

Neg vote:
Guillemots (seemed 2 combine worst qualities of Michael Bolton & Joe Cocker, but wz live clip so p'raps unfair)

Pipettes I do knot get. Seem pale, az if "Cruel Summer" & "Be My Baby" knot jus beyond their talent but beyond their soulz. Kasabian "Club Foot" wz nice sub-stooges knockaround, but p'raps band haz committed crimes elezwhere.

kasabian are horrendous in interviews, and most of their songs sound like knock off stone roses crossed with bad prml scrm...
