TIME TO ROCK

Welcome to the first of our occasional special guest polls - in this case [livejournal.com profile] awesomewells was caught not in possession of a paid account, and wanted to canvas the views of the assembled poptimists on the subject of ROCK.

But how to define rock? He naturally chose The Best Rock Album In The World...Ever, which surely by Trades Description science collects together only the finest examples of ROCK, which will be submitted to Any Good At All science.

How rock are poptimists? LET'S FIND OUT!

[Poll #769482]

NB this album came out in 1994 which is why it does not have LORDI et al. on it.

Tom I predict you will love my 'mashola' of 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' and Chaka Demus & Pliers 'Tease Me' on impending Ultramix 93.

Or maybe not.

Whom, might I ask, is Python Lee Jackson anyway?

[identity profile] juror8.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
One of Rod the Mod's early bands.

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
it is a comedy supergroup of Eric Idle, Stewart Lee and holiday camp favourite Englebert Jackson m'lud.

[identity profile] martinskidmore.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Rod Stewart was not a member of this otherwise undistinguished group. Rod or the Faces were recording in the same studio complex as PLJ, and got chatting. PLJ's singer couldn't get this song to work, and somehow Rod agreed to record a guide vocal, so he did one take. The band's actual singer still could do nothing with it, and they persuaded Rod to let them release his vocal, anonymously. The story didn't come out until it had been in the charts for some weeks, though it was surely obvious to everyone whose voice we were hearing.

Skynyrd > all other bands ever. We should really rename the internet the Skynyrdnet in tribute.

[identity profile] juror8.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Are they not "rock" or are they not "rocking", Tom?

[identity profile] juror8.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a really good Stiltskin/No Diggity mash-up around the internet somewhere.

Was Meat Loaf in a NOW poll at some point? When I started typing him the auto complete popped his name up, and I can only imagine ever having typed him in anywhere as being the worst artist in a long list of them.

[identity profile] mippy.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I am rather disturbed by how many of these I actually like. I now feel rather ill.

Also, today I cannot spell Zeppelin. Also II: there is no Whitesnake (as endorsed by R.Badger).

Apart from one single, sole exception, this poll is entirely awful and I also feel ill because it is SO INDIE.

[identity profile] juror8.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
This may be the least indie album ever assembled!

I suspect I'm in the wrong place to moan about the lack of ticky for Muddy Waters...

It is the rockriff that all rock is based on!

but it is so OLD and WRINKLY i cannot remember how it goes

Rock is GRATE! I bought a Crosby Stills and Nash album the other day, JUST TO MAKE THAT VERY POINT!

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
did you tell the cashier to "mellow out, robot" when he asked for the money?

[identity profile] awesomewells.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The drop-off in quality on this is even worse than a Now! album.

This will be the first of many genre-specific compilation polls. The next one will be METAL. Maybe.

[identity profile] awesomewells.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Also this should've been titled 21 CANON SALUTE!

A True Rocktimist Writes...

[identity profile] jel-bugle.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the Rock music.

Most glaring omission is "Here I Go Again".

Iggy Pop agreed is indie and should not be on there.

"Crazy Crazy Nights is one of the greatest songs of all time.

Also, no Journey! WTF?!?

Re: A True Rocktimist Writes...

Also, I have 12 Alice Cooper albums. "Teenage Lament '74" is their greatest song I think.

Wait, this is not a proper rock compilation as it does not contain "Spirit in the Sky." All proper rock compilations contain "Spirit in the Sky." I apologize if my not pointing this out earlier has caused anyone any inconvenience.
