BBC Talking Point vs Eurovision

Lordi, Lordi, Lordi. What an act. A proper band playng proper instruments.

And kudos the the Germans. Country and Western.

The rest were just sining to backing tracks and classical session musicians.

The first time I have 'watched' the show for about 15 years all thanks to Lordi.

Point = missed.

Finland, Lithuania and - had they qualified - Iceland for me.

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Arrrgh, noooo. No true poptimist should select those three.

I was going to post AN LONG RANT this morning decrying the sudden influx of irony and subversion into Eurovision. I mean, it's rather like kicking a labrador puppy isn't it? LT United in particular can go suck a dick.

I'm not sure I approve of Silvia Night either. It seems to me she's just taking advantage of the language barrier to wind up the Greek media. And for what end? Take it somewhere that actually deserves it - like that orgy of self-importance the Grammys for example. Not a contest that is all about celebrating our (Europe's) common love of pop.

I exempt Lordi from this, because "Hard Rock Hallelujah" is a fantastic pop song, regardless of the fact that it was original put forward as a form of protest. Deserved winner.

No true poptimist believes in the concept of "true poptimists".

haha I shall try and parse that sentence for the rest of today

I will confess to being whay mike t-diva calls a 'Eurovision purist'. Here's the last of his recent Slate pieces on the contest. (http://www.slate.com/id/2141944/entry/2142205/) Note the last bit, where he reports on the possibility of the contest "going global". Eek.

i am much more aggravated by the incursion of WOGANISM into public discourse viz intelligent ppl at my house stating that "of course the baltic nations all vote for each other"

he is worse than davina and dj daz put together

decrying knowingness = "i wish i was 1xpunk with flowers in my hair"

> classical session musicians

O NOES! ppl that can actually PLAY their instruments shocker!

I bet Mr Lordi has grade 1 piano.

MY 8 YEAR OLD GRANDCHILD COULD HAVE DONE BETTER!

oh sorry, wrong talking point...

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I approve of Lordi.

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The only proper metal song I like is 'Poison' by Alice Cooper.

lordi are not pop they have guitars

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Lordi have a girl on keyboards = indie!!!!

[identity profile] jauntyalan.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
LORDI'S SONG *IS* POISON by Alice Cooper!

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
oh I haven't heard it! I went out to dance to Ellen Allien instead of watching Eurovision. I just disapprove of metal generally. And the world only needs one 'Poison'.

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
have you heard the bosh version of 'Poison'?

[identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com 2006-05-23 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have indeed. Groove Coverage, no? Much better than the original!

[identity profile] zenith.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Think of all the true metal purists they probably annoy.

[identity profile] jel-bugle.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad Lordi won. It was a Kiss cover really. The real metal community will appreciate the subversion involved. Plus, they have made a load of albums already.

I voted for Finland, Sweden, Lithuania, and Germany (for my sister, as she was having problems getting through)

[identity profile] dubdobdee.livejournal.com 2006-05-22 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
jel your sister sang the german entry?! d00d!

Lordi defend accusations of Satanism (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5004170.stm)

"They have produced an album called The Devil Is A Loser and maybe that tells a little bit about this..."
