PROMISCUOUS GOAL

Quarter Final Half-Time Scores

England 0 Portugal 2

A combination of pace and good luck has given Portugal a potentially decisive advantage in their Pop World Cup quarter-final. England started slowly and sloppy defending from their ageing back line let Portugal quickly go a goal up. A lightning run from Portugal's star striker towards the end of the half ended in a controversial free kick and a resulting second goal. In between England showed flashes of ability and went close on a few occasions - if they can grab an early goal in the second half the complexion of the game might change but for now it's advantage Portugal.

Rampant Portugal - the sight no England fan wanted to see

Trinidad 1 Iran 1

An even game so far in which both sides put on a good attacking display - Iran took the lead with their first real chance but Trinidad never let their heads drop and equalised shortly before half time. Trinidad look the better finishers but their Route One approach play has been regularly snuffed out by a canny Iranian midfield: this game could go either way and one bit of magic in the second half might prove decisive.

Early doors yet. We need to keep it tight at the back, two banks of four.

Portugal's a small country but we seem to have won some supporters from abroad. We're grateful for your support, so far you've been like an extra player on the pitch. Thanks! Keep it up: who knows where this might end?

VOTE NELLY GET CRISTIANO.

Also NB any goffs who might be reading this: in my World Cup 2006 Sticker Album, one of the Portuguese players (it might be Tiago) is a dead* ringer for THE VAMPYR LESTAT in TOP GOFF FILLUM the QUEEN OF THE DEAD!

Undead ringer, I suppose.

i fear that the name 'Paul Oakenfold' alone is putting people off the England track. he's just not fashionable anymore.

[identity profile] chezghost.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
but Kelly Deayton or whatever her name was vocals weren't so bad were they?

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2006-05-18 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, yes. A pity really, as the Portugal track is a total stinker. (In fact, looking back at my previous votes it seems I am not really down with [livejournal.com profile] thebopkids' PWC squad at all!)

The Portuguese nation still likes and respects you, Jeff, and hopes to be here to win you around in later rounds.
