Jack Johnson: Threat or Menace?

Can he be stopped? How?

Also why is his bloody song all over Radio 1 despite it hardly doing anything in the charts?

I blame Mr D.Ownloader and his pals.

Is he that surfer fvckwit?

[identity profile] boyofbadgers.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
Good god he's bad. Mind you, given the surf community's record on such things, his rubness is only to be expected. Cf Reef, Rootjoose, Mishka ect ect.

I wonder if James Blunt can somehow be pushed into reverting to his supersoldier death machine ways and killing some of his peers. Brutally. Brutally. Brutal. Brutally.

He cannot be stopped! Student life has provided me with plenty of examples of poor deluded youngsters in his thrall, seduced by guitar-pluck and anodyne wibble. I think one of them even played me some of his songs but I can't for the life of me remember how they went. (Was it Dom Passantino who linked him to gap-yearists? so OTM there.)

Personally I think he is filling that all-important RHCP gap.

tsk. ...actually, he's one of those things where my desire to tell it like it is re: shite records and my craven fear of upsetting anyone I know by dissing what they love would really kick in. (and they do really love him! which is what I really can't understand, mild fondness would be more plausible given how very wallpaper-dull it is.)

More that when people have listened to their RHCP albums enough times they need to find something new and yet comfortingly familiar in the absence of another 'californication', and JJ is what they light on. I think of him as album-sales rather than singles, not yet able to factor in mr d.ownloader and his chums.

I enjoy Jack Johnson. It is slightly above-mild fondness for him; he does have some mellow gems, a lot of above-average and average tunes, and the occasional song which makes me contemplate suicide/murder-suicide ("Banana Pancakes," of course, being the chief offender. In many many ways).

it was me and dom did as well i guess; young innocents are sent to australasia and the pacific coast then come back with the most heinous music known to man in there grips deluded by memories of surfing and sun and stuff they believe it to be mystical laid back wonderfulness rather than turgid shit.

I hate it when that happens. I gave James Blunt a whole point because I thought I'd never hear 'You're Beautiful' again. HOW WRONG I WAS.

who is this person?

why have i never heard of him? OR is he the one with the advert that i say "who the hell is he?" every time it comes on (clearly you'd need to be [livejournal.com profile] mrs_carsmile to answer this last bit)?

[identity profile] carsmilesteve.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
you know that bit in the simpsons where someone is talking to homer and you see inside homer's head and there's a litle mouse juggling or similar, that's what you'd see if you looked into my head now...

he does sound like he's dreadful...

who he, ed.?

[identity profile] byebyepride.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of him either. Is he something to do with The 5 Maroons?

Does he do that "Bad Day" song, or is that anothernothernother person who is Blunt or Johnson?

Ugh. Where have they all come from! It's all so cynical, I could cry.

The Bad Day video stands out because it has the actress who plays Seth's other girl from the OC series 1.

The OTHER Jack Johnson (1878 - 1946)

"The world's first African American heavyweight champion patented a wrench (U.S.patent#1,413,121) on April the 18th, 1922. "

Awesome!
