I have only heard one example of turbofolk, it is called 'Gili Gili' and is by one Jelena Karleusa, it is INCREDIBLE.

Is it about setting Croatians on fire? Most turbofolk has distinctly nationalist overtones.

It goes "gili gili gili gili gili something something something". It may well be.

Around the time I found it, I read an interview with another turbofolk singer called Ceca, who is the widow of one of the country's most notorious gangsters! And Jelena Karleusa is her big rival, also apparently the daughter of a top brass Serbian minister, and I can't remember the details but the rivalry reached such heights that one of them tried to arrange for the other to be KIDNAPPED!

They have disco-polo, which is basically very florid, campy disco sung in Polish. I don't think it has the nationalistic elements of turbofolk tho.
