READERS POLL 07: Album of the Year

Next up in what may well prove a bumper day of polls is the relatively insignificant AlBUM of the Year award. Last year's winner was The Knife. What about this year?

[Poll #1108010]

(I am DYING for lunch so I'm not going to faff around finding the album covers, sorry for the boring unvisualness of this post)

AND A REMINDER: Get your 10 favourite tracks of the year to leagueofpop@gmail.com before New Year! The spreadsheet so far makes INTERESTING READING if you are 1xbig nerdxor like me.

I still don't know if I should get the Miranda Lambert album, it depends how 'proper' country it is. I really can't get into 'proper' country but I saw a review which compared it to Lucinda Williams, and I like her fine...though never near album-of-year levels.

Er Britney obv. Kala is an odd one, it's definitely not as good as Arular but some of the individual tracks are among the best I've heard this year ('Hussel', 'Bamboo Banga', 'Bird Flu'). 'Jimmy', 'XR2' and 'Paper Planes' also good but everything else I find a bit blah, never went back to the rest. No different to a lot of other patchy albums I guess. I still don't like 'Boyz'!

I love [cross] and Kala, but this was the easiest choice yet... 'Blackout' is a masterpiece. Ms. Spears' finest moment and deserves to win.

Also, if you all like MIA so much, how comes it's so bloody difficult for me to get rid of my THREE spare tickets for the gig on Thursday night?

Shout if you want one (or more).

[identity profile] carsmilesteve.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
i have heard NONE of these, oh no, hold on, i heard the MIA one at kat's party.

i was looking at "songs i have added to itunes in 2007" last night in a vain attempt to start my top 10 tracks, and there's like 0 actually FROM 2007...

Oh poo, I really should have filled out the nominations shouldn't I? I would've voted Tangled Up.

I'm not sure I like a lot of Blackout, controversially. I don't really know what I'm going to go with here.

Lucinda Williams? Ack!

Think of it as "Jealousy" and "I'm Not Leaving Without You" with guns. Or Britney with an umbrella.

I could barely shift my +1 for her ICA gig the other week, too.

I'm pretty sure her attitude will appeal but...I dunno what I dislike about country music. The accents, the twangs, the style? It seems so alien and weird in a bad way to me. I guess this is how lots of other people hear US hip-hop.

But you should still vote Britney over Miranda. My top three albs right now are Insomniatic, Blackout, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, though I'm uncertain as to the order of the first two, there are a couple of contenders who could overtake Miranda, and several albs waiting in the wings unheard by me that I have hope for.

(So I could change my vote to Britney, if the voting is close, or if I just decide that Blackout beats Insomniatic after all.)

If you love MIA so much why don't you go live there

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's her fault for doing a gig when everyone is buggering off out of London :(

Well, "country" is all over the place these days. The only "proper" country that's charting is from bores like George Strait. In any event, I would be shocked if you didn't like LeAnn Rimes' "Nothin' Better To Do" or Taylor Swift's "A Place In This World" (the latter being as teenpop as you can get). Shocked.

I am not free on Thursday night but I love that userpic.

I can make my music squawk like a chicken

[personal profile] koganbot 2007-12-18 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Which of these albums is funniest? Of the four I've heard (everyone but Justice), they all have moments that are really funny. Somehow I can imagine a mashup between "Bird Flu" and "Gunpowder and Lead."

I nominated Crazy Ex-Girlfried, but since then I've changed my mind and now voted for Blackout. Flip-flopper!

Justice definitely has a sense of humor, although the first thirty seconds may be unintentionally hilarious the rest of it's very playful and 'TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY' and 'DVNO' are deliberately funny.

Blackout easily the funniest album but "doggin' on the bonnet of yr red Honda" is the funniest moment across all that I've heard.

Thankyou!

Originally voted for Justice, but switched my vote to Kala in an attempt to stop the incredibly average Britney album from winning.

When do the polls close?

For us potential vote switchers, when do the polls close?

The highway is your girlfriend as you go by so quick

[personal profile] koganbot 2007-12-18 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Btw, have you heard the original "Roadrunner" yet? It is funny too.

[identity profile] celentari.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No, but Justice is better and Britney will probably win anyway. Show some love to Justice!

Shouting here. Specially as it's at the Coronet, which is near home. Message me on FB or something.

[identity profile] bengraham.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't find you on FB. You are very well hidden.

[identity profile] byebyepride.livejournal.com 2007-12-18 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
But you know the words to every britpop song ever. Surely today's young person's music just couldn't compete!

Oh well, try sbp@livejournal.com then. Sorry - I probably turned on all my privacy options or something.
