Did anyone else wince a little actually seeing those two Kanye albums back-to-back? I like him and all, and better him than Lucinda Williams I guess, but jeez...

They're not my personal favourites of either year but they are both incredible albums - both were top 5 easily for me! They're probably the least wincey bit of the list.

It's something about the back-to-back though--I like them well enough (though I can't remember the last time I actually listened to them) but it just seems so your-dad-trying-to-be-cool. I guess that's actually Wilco, but still, it feels like a very default choice. "I must respect pop music, so here you go. And I guess rock sucked this year anyway." I guess defaults are what win P&J though.

i'm pretty sure Dylan is going to win this year's P&J :(

That's sort of comforting though, like an uncle who's taken to wearing flashy clothes going back to his ugly but familar style.

maybe, but it will really show how weak the year has been (not that Dylan album is necess. weak itself - this is the thing, i'm sure it is good but i have no desire to listen to it at all - woo ignorance/prejudice!)

Well that would be true of virtually anything good (ie poppy, forward-thinking, popular) which won!

Defaults win everything :(

I think it's the two in a row, though, just seems kinda unimaginative. It's great that he won one year but surely one of those years there must have been something else everyone could get behind...
