Yet Another Year In Pop: 22

Dizzee holds off the BEPs for another week; some random bosh from Agnes sneaks in behind them at 3 whilst an ancient Veronicas song finally charts in the UK.

[Poll #1409112]

Final reminder to get your nominations in for the best song of 2000 (please nominate there and not on this post, otherwise I might miss it) - you've got until 8pm BST tonight but I'll post up a list of the noms so far at some point this afternoon.

Best song of 2000 - nominations so far

Blimes on a stick, this is a big list! 271 songs so far, which means roughly eight heats coming up over the next few weeks. If your nomination isn't on this list, don't panic - I've probably shunted it over to 2001 or decided it was pushing it a bit to include it at all (see newly evolved guidelines below).

I got fifty Bentleys in the West Indies... It doesn't matter! )

The following nominations I have deemed to have been released in 1999 or earlier:

Sorry guys! )

To prevent our indecision taking us from behind (and my spreadsheet from melting), I have decided on the following method to determine the release year:

1. It made the UK top ten according to everyhit.co.uk
2. It made the UK top 40 according to everyhit (i.e. if it got re-released and made the top ten, we'd go for the year it was a bigger hit, cf Sonique)
3. Discogs UK release date
4. Discogs US release date
5. My werk database
6. Wikipedia/other interweb source

I know this is very UK-centric but it should all balance out by the end of the decade and prevent us having any Miley Cyrus difficulties later on :)

You've still got a few hours left to nominate! We're still missing A1's cover of 'Take On Me' and Bob The Builder...
