The Music of Senator Orrin Hatch

Music of Senator Orrin Hatch - who is from the neighboring state of Utah (neighboring if you live in Colorado, that is) - is streamed here. Haven't listened myself, since it requires Realplayer, which I have long banished from my computer. But comments would be appreciated, since a friend of mine is doing a piece on the fellow's music. I've emailed him my thoughts on the lyrics to "America United."

roadshow

frank

do you know the lds tradition of roadshows and other semi public, semi secular performances?

understanding hatch's music is understanding the lds interperation of both spectacle and protesant hymn singing.

i can actually give you formal notes, if you need?

thanks

heal our land: he has a rich, deepish, good baritone voice -- my instant thought was paul robeson! tho it's nothing like as deep -- and the backing is simple orchetral and a rather tepid choir; one interesting aspect for me is the degree to which the tone expresses a humility before a larger power, given that hatch's political persona doesn't, on the whole -- i can imagine his fans consider this "another, less arrogant side to him" -- the burden of the song is a plea for god to deliver america into liberty and freedom

that's the only one i could contact to for the moment
