Plus I feel there are less time-consuming ways of achieving the sensation of having your own little doll.

well i always assume the footballer/popstar's kid will grow up resenting their name...in most cases i am convinced this will happen thus BAD IRRESPONSIBLE PARENT.

i like names that are uncommon whilst still relatively conventional, possibly considering some of the more hippyish stuff (Skye etc.)

I have a male friend named Sky. He is not hippieish at all, although he is pretty indie. He really doesn't like it when people spell his name Skye.

Anita and Ray are wonderful Aktual Dog replacements for me. I have grown v fond of them both.
