Ho for foot and ho for ball

After a promising opening day or two (results for Germany, Ecuador, England and T&T) the Pop World Cup's stock as a predictor for the actual world cup seems to have taken a sharp drop. Even so, in the only competition that ACTUALLY MATTERS - so much so that trolls from one band's OFFICIAL SITE have been flooding my inbox with to-be-ignored 5-point votes - there is still one day to vote in the semi finals:

Iran v Czech Republic

Portugal v France

Votes by noon tomorrow, results after lunch tomorrow!

In other news!! The following email reaches me:

"Hello

I am the man who wrote half of Daz Sampson's 'Teenage Life' (i.e. I'm not Daz Sampson) and this song has been written to express my moral outrage at the extremely low quality of football songs these days...

Call it a cash-in for my synth duo on the back of my fleeting Eurovision status if you will, but there's no denying that "With the world at your feet there's no heart you can't reach, this could be the one" is about as offensive to the English language as you can get without being Stan Boardman. And Boardman makes you want to support Germany anyway.

Thankyou for the memories

The History of Pop Part 52 aka It's all about the dog in me

Great rejoicing at Lex Towers as Aaliyah finally wins a Now poll - she's in it again, as are a few other former winners, as are the Sugababes, and Scooter, Ms Dynamite, Nelly and...Idlewild. Summer 2002 - it was really hot, there was some terrific pop in the charts and a World Cup was on. How times change...

TICKNO TICKNO TICKNO TICKNO!

This will be the LAST Now poll for over TWO WEEKS as I'm on holiday from Wednesday, so enjoy it while you can. The final 12 volumes in the series will occupy us nicely during July and August I'm sure.
