HALF TIME SCORES

France 1 Spain 0

A single goal separates these European rivals after an exciting first half in which both sides went close. Spain's raw pace threatened France from the outset but once the match settled, France's light passing play gradually gave them the upper hand. Spain are the more direct team and they have plenty of time to turn the game around, but they will need to find something extra after the break.

Ukraine 0 Togo 2

With rumours of a FIPA enquiry into their team selection flying around before kick-off, a demoralised Ukraine side shipped two goals and never looked threatening against a Togo clearly brimful of confidence. The scoreline could have been even worse for Ukraine as Togo were denied a clear penalty appeal. Unless they can produce a miracle, it looks like Ukraine will be flying home - wherever that home turns out to be.

The History Of Pop Part 43 aka Come Around We'll Kick Your Ass In

It was a close thing in the end, but MR OIZO ended up a winner in the Now 42 poll, by one vote over Cher and Dusty Springfield. Hooray for squelchy bass puppet rock!

Now 43 has some absolute monsters on, as we enter the sunny uplands of 1999, and a nation waits trembling and expectant for Westlife's millennium record. While they waited, they listened to some amazing pop music (and a number of stinkers).
