Late again this, but I suspect you'll be able to get through APRIL's 41-75 list nonetheless -- only six entries qualify. As usual...

[Poll #1406164]

Röyksopp are ahead in the March poll with 57.1%, followed by T Swift's "White Horse" at 42.9%.

Entrywatch : In the first 22 weeks of 2009 we've had 161 chart entries, down from 198 in 2008 and 259 in 2007. Next month I may make a GRAPH of this.

"Grown Iraqi men get misty-eyed by the mere mention of his name. "I love Lionel Richie," they say. Iraqis who do not understand a word of English can sing an entire Lionel Richie song. He has performed in Morocco, Dubai, Qatar and Libya. There is obviously something up there. The more we talked, the more he theorized as to the reasons his music might be so popular here. He thinks it is because of the simple message in his music: Love." (ABC News)

Apols for slight lateness of this, your MARCH cavalcade of second-tier hits. This month, there's no less than seventeen tracks and thirteen proper 'tube videos, two of which incidentally have a video game theme. So...

[Poll #1388870]

February is led by Kyla's "Do You Mind", with a rather good 65% score, a bit ahead of St. Etienne at 60%.

Entrywatch : 2009's first 17 weeks have yielded 122 chart entries, down from 148 in 2008 and 209 in 2007.

Eight February chart entries stayed south of the #40 border, with only one of them managing more than one chart week. Proper videos are getting a bit thin on the ground it seems; still, here are your selections for this month...

[Poll #1369938]

January's four contestants elicited a clear MEH from the collective, with a DON'T LIKE ANY score of 50%. The Game and Fleet Foxes were the least disliked, with 18.1% each.

Entrywatch (in which we examine whether the downward trend in the number of chart entries continues): 2009's first 11 weeks have yielded 71 chart entries; the number for 2008 was 89 and for 2007 126. (So apparently it does.)

And in them is not much at all. No, the reason the Yet Another Year In Pop polls are so lean is not that the majority of chart entries peak below #40. I was actually wondering whether I should wait for February's batch as well before posting, but since I have far too much nothing else to do anyway, here goes. (The upside is a higher probability of finding everything on youtube!)

[Poll #1350407]

The continuing chart ossification is rather striking when we look at the numbers. Last year (a record low for entries, as discussed before), 61 tracks entered the Top 75 in the first eight weeks. This year, the number is...41. Eep.

(PS could a mod create a "yayips" tag btw?)
